I once attended an algebra conference where there was actually a talk about an application of near-rings to agricultural experiments – and it was advertised as “an application of finite fields to finite fields” (for the special case).
For effect he actually used a farming fork (howdyoucallit) instead of the customary laser pointer :-)

Anyways, at this point I think we’re practically begging for a whole lot of “out standing in his field” jokes all at once. :D
