I once attended an algebra conference where there was actually a talk about an application of near-rings to agricultural experiments – and it was advertised as “an application of finite fields to finite fields” (for the special case).
For effect he actually used a farming fork (howdyoucallit) instead of the customary laser pointer :-)
Bahaha. The comment made me laugh more than the comic itself! Well done.

Nice, especially the comment is great. :)
p.s. I am suddenly reminded of this book cover: http://press.princeton.edu/images/k7573.gif (about yet another kind of field theory)
Hee hee about the name of that talk. :)
Anyways, at this point I think we’re practically begging for a whole lot of “out standing in his field” jokes all at once. :D
