This is the first time in three years that I’m not going to the meetings–I hope you’ll all have fun and drink a few for me! :)
Ha ha .. I am here. It is funny that you can tell mathematicians from everyone else. I sat in the hotel bar Sunday night and noticed the guy to my right scribbling mathematics on a yellow note pad, the two young men to my left discussing functional analysis classes, then another young woman came in to my right and she was studying operator theory in Austrialia. Finally, the two men to my left were replaced by a father and son team — only the father was a mathematician. The son was into politics. We discussed politics but by that time I was a little drunk and I’m afraid I said the usual stupid drunk dribble. However .. at least everyone was pro-Obama/anti-Bush. It might have gotten ugly afterwards.
I haven’t fully recovered from Sunday night and I decided to stay in my hotel room and work on math instead of going to the morning talks this morning. :-|
